Just 15 KM from our Villa, this historic site marks the spot where King Rajasinghe I is said to have died from a poisonous bamboo thorn. Surrounded by stone pillars and a steel fence, it stands as a quiet reminder of a royal tragedy.

Barandi Kovila

Barandi Kovil is located 13 KM away from our Villa. Barandi Kovil is said to have been built by King Rajasinghe I (1581-1593 AD) during his reign of Seethawaka Kingdom. This might have been done at the behest of Arittakivendu Perumal, a Hindu and a learned astrologer, who the king appointed as his advisor.

Seethawaka Palace

Located just 13 kilometers from the villa, Seethawaka city was originally founded by King Mayadunne in 1524 A.D. and served as a provincial administrative center. During King Rajasingha’s reign, it evolved into a significant city. Archaeological findings in the area suggest remnants of the ancient city, though exact identifications remain unclear. Notably, a fort in the southern region, built by the Dutch in 1675, may incorporate parts of these historic ruins.

Seethawaka Raja Maha Viharaya

Nestled amidst rocky hills just outside Avissawella, this ancient temple dates back to the Seethawaka Kingdom. With its natural cave shrine and serene atmosphere, it reflects centuries of royal devotion and Buddhist heritage—making it a peaceful stop for history lovers and spiritual seekers alike.

Kumari Ella

Kumari Ella Waterfall is situated 11 KM away from our Villa. It is a small fall of 4 meters in height. According to folklore, the daughter of King Seethawaka Rajasinghe, named Kumari, has drowned here.

Labugama Kalatuwawa Reservoir

16 KM, 30 minutes from our location, Kalatuwawa Reservoir (Sinhala: කලටුවාව ජලාශය) is a storage reservoir situated in Labugama-Kalatuwawa Forest Reserve in Colombo District, Sri Lanka. It was built by impounding the flow of the Kalatuwawa Ela for water supply for domestic consumption in Colombo City. The reservoir, along with the nearby Labugama Reservoir, is maintained by the Colombo Municipal Council.
